In 1970, we gave the nod to the Ford Torino, which could be ordered in a wide variety of configurations. Forty years ago, buyers could choose from economical, six-cylinder-powered sedans to the dragstrip-ready 429 Super Cobra Jet fastback. These legendary winners had one thing in common: bandwidth. In the 1960s and '70s, this term wasn't yet part of popular lexicon. Today, the 2010 Ford Fusion's impressive bandwidth as a model range was one of the many factors that helped it earn the 2010 Motor Trend Car of the Year award.
Want an economical midsize sedan that doesn't cost much, yet won't bore you to tears? Need to please your greener side with a high-tech hybrid? Fancy a near-sport sedan with AWD, 18-inch rolling stock, and the latest infotainment and electronics? Depending on which model you choose and how many option boxes you tick, the Fusion can be any of the above. Arthur St. Antoine calls the Fusion "a compelling sweep across one of the market's most hotly contested segments."
The original Ford Fusion came to market for the 2006 model year. The basics were there, but the car wasn't fully baked. For 2010, Ford's product teams gave the lineup a soup-to-nuts redevelopment so thorough, it's as if the first-generation car never existed. Only the passenger-shell sheetmetal and other basic architectural elements escaped being redesigned, upgraded, or replaced. Although a four-door sedan is the only body style offered, powertrain choices expand from two to four, and each is new or substantially revised. There are several trim levels offered as well: base S, upmarket SE, luxurious SEL, a separate Sport model, and a Hybrid. Early in this year's COTY program, there were quiet whispers, while heads nodded, about how the Fusion looked, felt, and drove like an entirely new machine.
I'm now driving Lavar Arrington's old Maserati. I know, it's kind of like vehicular sloppy seconds, but for a holdover car it'll do for the next couple months. Somewhere in the middle of the 2006 season I started working with Eastern Motors, thus getting awesome cars to drive around for free - and by working I really mean driving their car and pretty much doing nothing else. For the eighteen months I have driven a variety of cars ranging from a CL550 to a long bed Duramax 2500 and over that time I have developed a new respect for how cool cars can be.Per a conversation a couple months ago with Robert (the owner) we came to the conclusion that I needed a better or actually classier car to drive for the new season. Actually, Robert's exact words were "You've got redneck pretty much covered, lets get you something bad ass." He then continued to say "Nothing is out of you league, tell me what you want." I had to hand it to him, the redneck statement was pretty true. My garage currently houses a jacked up 2500 truck, a Hummer, an XLR Cadillac for the wife (really not redneck), and a 1967 Camaro. However, saying that nothing was out of my league was something that really intrigued me.
As soon as I arrived at my house I went crazy on the computer search for new cars. After over an hour I had come up with a faultless answer. Austin Martin is making a new four door model called the Rapide. If there were ever an amazing car this is it, but to my dismay it is a concept car and will not come out for at least a year, if ever. I then moved down the line to the Quattroporte. Masarati makes one hell of a four door car and before I knew it I was sitting in the passenger seat barreling through Ashburn at 130 holding on for dear life. A five minute test drive of this car was more than enough to convince me that the Quattroporte was by far the coolest car I've ever sat in.
I was nearly ready to put the order in for the Mas until I came across a Panamera Porsche packet. This new four door Porsche is absolutely beautiful. At this point, I was more perplexed than ever about what I should do. I spent a couple days thinking and while I loved the Maserati, I went out on a limb (way out - lol) and decided to go with a car almost no one will have. The only bummer about this choice will be waiting until October for the release of the car.
About a week later I got a call from my brother Tanner. He tells me there is a black Mas sitting at the Eastern motors dealership in Leesburg and he doesn't want to get my hopes up, but what possible reason could that car be there for? Less than an hour later I'm surprised with another call, this one from Robert telling me that he decided I could test out the Maserati for the next couple months while I wait for the Porsche. I laughed as he continued to tell me he was sorry Lavar's rims were still on the car and would get them changed. I told him no big deal, I don't know shit about car rims, but the Giavanna rims would suffice. He then had to explain "Brothers don't like to drive other brother's cars." And I'm wondering what the big deal is before he continues to explain "you don't wanna get shot for somewhere you've never been." Right now it couldn't get any better as far as automobiles go, as long as Lavar just chilled out. Robert's right, I don't really want to get shot.
Finally, I am completely aware how vain this post is. All I can say is that it's real life right now and it's F'ing awesome. I'll live it while I can. We are preparing for the second annual Redskins Rides Car Show. This event not only features classic and exotic cars- Redskins players bring out their rides so that fans and car enthusiasts alike can come together for a fun family event that benefits charity!
Last year, over 3,000 people attended Redskins Rides at Redskins Park in Ashburn, Virginia. This year, the turnout is expected to be even higher. Competition categories include Best Classic and Best Custom for all exhibitors, and Top Redskins Ride for the players.
Fans can get their Redskins gear autographed by the players while enjoying food and live music. Event sponsors will set up booths to showcase their products and services. Check out the 2008 Redskins Rides video below to get a feeling of what to expect this year!
Last year some of the Redskins that attended included: Antwaan Randle El, Chris Cooley, Mike Sellers, Fred Smoot, Cornelius Griffin, Chris Samuels, Devan Thomas, Malcolm Kelly, and Kedric Goldston. Jason Campbell, Colt Brennan, Larry Michael, The Hogettes, Chief Zee, and some of the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders also made appearances.

Have you ever had one of those days where everything seems to go wrong? Yesterday, it happened to me. I woke up bright and early thinking it would be nice to start the day with a little work out. But after looking at my clock I realized that I had slept about 45 minutes longer than I had planned. After rushing to get dressed, I hurried and made breakfast and headed over to pick up some dry cleaning. Since it was 7 am and I was in a hurry, I neglected to turn off the engine. After paying I was out the door. I had a big day ahead of me. But when I got to the door, it was locked!"Great." I thought. "Now I have to go back into the dry cleaners and tell the lady working that I am mentally handicapped." When I did however, the woman working didn't seem concerned at all. She immediately ran to the back of the store and when she returned she had a tool box and hanger in hand. Before I knew it she was out the door and standing by my car with her tools. What is this freaking Lady MacGyver?
"I really appreciate it, but isn't there a shopping center security guard or something?" I asked.
"No, we can get in. I have done it before."
Within seconds she had a rag and a flat head screw driver and she began to pry back the door. Before I knew it the hanger was inches away from automatic lock. Then, "Click" we were in. I cordially thanked her and left. As I was driving away I wondered how the hell the lady knew exactly how to break into cars. What does she do when she leaves that cleaners?? Then I said aloud, "Who gives a crap, at least I'm headed home."

The Washington Capitals are preparing to take on the Penguins in game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. If they win it they will be on track to have a story book season with Alex Ovechkin playing the role of the main character. So how many characters can the Great 8 play? We've seen him on the jumbotron at the games as the "Russian Machine" we've seen him try his hand at football, but now, Alex comes to life in animation as Eastern Motor's most recent spoke's person. I have never planned, or helped plan, an event like the one we hosted last night. The reason we did this was really my mom's idea. She recently went to a similar event in Winchester and loved it enough to want to do the same thing. We got to talking about the details and soon enough it went from a small get together to what we had last night. Which was amazing.
Earlier in the day yesterday Chris went around Redskins park inviting the players. I think if you were there last night it was easy to see the respect these guys have for each other. They were all willing to chip in to make a very interesting and entertaining evening. Thanks so much for all your help to those who came.
Besides the big hearts of the Redskins in attendance, the amount of items people donated to make the auction possible was incredible. There were dinners, gift baskets, a weekend get away, UWC tickets, and autographed memorabilia galore. And people knew why we were doing it. I remember selling a pink Redskins mini helmet for $500! Unreal!
All of this was great but it couldn't have been possible without having a location. The Original Steakhouse couldn't have been nicer. I know it was for charity but free beer, wine, and food for 3 hours from the Steakhouse! That definitely set the perfect atmosphere for the night.
Last I just want to say thanks to all of you who helped at the event. It wouldn't have been the success it was without your help. Charlie Cook and his staff, Robert Bassam and everyone from Easter Motors, Big O, students, friends, and those of you who bought tickets. I know I had a blast and hope everyone else did to. On May 16, 2008 Nancy Cooley was one of the thousands of people to hear the words “You have cancer.” Knowing first hand about the disease and the treatments and being a survivor she believes along with others that; we need to find a cure! Many have been touched by cancer in some way and we all have the power to make a difference. On April 14, 2009 Nancy, Tanner and Chris Cooley will host Cooley’s Rally for the Cure. This event is being held to raise money for research of this horrible disease. 100 percent of the proceeds raised from this event will be donated! Yesterday Eastern Motors and Gearshift Productions shot a commercial with their newest star, Alex Ovechkin. The shoot, like all of them, was very light hearted. It was also very destructive. There were pucks and footballs flying, stick thrown down, helmets smashed, and even some friendly competition between #8 and #47. Check out the preview of what will surely be an awesome commercial..
As we all know, Eastern Motors makes commercials featuring the top athletes in the DC area. Considering the fact that DC is home to the best hockey player in the world, it only makes sense that Easterns would feature him at some point in one of those commercials. Soon, we will all get to see Washington Capital's Alex Ovechkin singing "At Eastern Motors....Your job's your credit." So prepare yourselves for greatness because the commercial is in the works.

In the recent weeks I have become friends with Washington Capitals Donald Brashear. Besides being an awesome hockey player and a longtime veteran, he drive a badass Lamborghini. This doesn't have a lot to do with Eastern Motors, but it is worth sharing none the less.
If you live in a cave there is a small chance that you didn't hear the recent news that Brett Favre retired...again. If you didn't, he is "officially" retiring.
After I heard his name nearly 96,000 times in the one hour episode of Sports Center and reading some of the 46 articles written about him today I started wondering, what kind of car does Favre drive? After about 10 pages of google searches, the best I could come up with was a Chevy Silverado Truck. In that same google search I also found this. Can't you just see him and Jason Fabini cruising home after practice together?
Now I know that wasn't much of a car commercial but it begs the question, "What would Brett Favre drive if he had done an Easterns commercial instead of a Smart Car commercial?" I decided to ask those close to home what they thought.
EimanBassam, Chris Cooley, and Lindsay Czarniak all stuck to the truck theme differing by very minor details. Dan Hellie and Jason Campbell on the other hand thought differently of Favre and went respectively with a Denali and Bentley. So far some pretty generic answers for one of the most prolific passers of all time. So thinking I could get something good, I asked Eastern's founder Robert Bassam what he thought. And although he stuck to the truck theme, least he went big saying Favre was an F650 guy. Which at this point gave me a good laugh because can you see a guy who does a smart car commercial hitting the streets in this?Thinking that if I pursued this further I would keep getting much of the same, "Favre is a bit of a redneck...so a truck." But, I decided to continue the search for Favre's fantasy Eastern's car anyway. I asked Dan Steinberg to give me his take on the matter and unlike those before him, he wasn't too quick to answer. After some advice from his intern and much deliberation he finally said, "A 1993 REDSKINS CHEVY BUBBLE CAPRICE. I wrote about it yesterday. That's what he would drive for sure." I laughed and continued the search. I figured Matt Terl might have something good and even though he went with the country boy truck thing, he said "A tractor, but with custom rims." A pretty classic answer considering I can definitely see Brett cruising the streets of Ashburn in a Tractor with some 60 inch spinners.
So now after asking seven people I began writing. I felt like their bright minds had come up with was pretty damn good. I could picture the commercial now. Favre singing the Eastern's tune and each line would cut to a him in a different vehicle beginning with the Smart Car and getting bigger and bigger until finally, he's atop the tractor screaming "YOUR JOB'S YOUR CREDIT!" And then much to my surprise I got a call back from the man himself, Clinton Portis. Since pretty much everything Clinton says is gold, I couldn't wait to hear what he had to say. "I think a Volkswagen Beetle, surf board on top. Just like coach Zorn." And at that instant, my search had ended. If Favre had played for the Skins and done his Eastern's commercial, this is exactly where he would be...him and Zorn both. Drinking milk and driving VW's. Thanks Clinton. Read more...
Eastern Motors knows how to do things big. And that's what they did at the 2009 DC Auto Show. Their cars included a Rolls Royce Phantom, 2 Ferrari's, a Lamborghini, a Maserati, Mercedes CL 65, and more! Check 'em out for yourself and you will know what I mean by doing it BIG.
Not only did they do it big with their cars, Easterns also brought in Jason Campbell, Antwaan Randle El, and the Redskins cheerleaders to sign autographs. These guys and girls were definitely one of the biggest attractions on hand and they didn't dissapoint as they signed autographs and took photos for hours.

Last week we took a look at what consumerreport.com said were some of the Best Cars in 2009. As great as that is Best Cars don't mean fuel efficient cars. In a year that fuel costs rose to over $4 per gallon, I feel like fuel economy is the most important thing to look at when buying a car. There is a great site out there for all your fuel economy tips. It covers benefits from: driving sensibly, observing the speed limit, using your cruise control, removing excess weight, etc., etc. What about the people who don't want to change their habits? The people who just want to buy a car that does it for them? Because you can "save $200-$1,500 in fuel costs each year by choosing the most efficient vehicle that meets your needs. Fuel-efficient models come in all shapes and sizes, so you don't have to sacrifice utility or size."

The auto industry has obviously been hit hard in the recent months. With a new man in charge maybe some of that will change. As it currently stands however, things suck. So to try and shed a brighter light on the auto industry, we will take a look at the top cars in 2009 from consumerreports.org. Best in class: Family-friendly vehicles. If you have a family and need a car I took a look at the Honda Accord and the Subaru Forester for a number of reasons. Check 'em out.
FAMILY SEDAN - HONDA ACCORD My first year of college I drove around a VWJetta. After school was done I moved to Virginia to do summer sales and drove that thing all the way across country. Everything was going great. I loved that car. It got great gas mileage, it had no problems internally, and although it was as coupe, I fit in it quite comfortably. This was great until one day I got T-Boned by a Ford F150 doing 45 in a 25 and totaled the Black Beauty. After that I bought my first foreign car. It was an '02 Honda Accord. It was a great car for me then and still seems to be as it is #1 in the FAMILY SEDAN category. If you're thinking about buying a car and want something reliable, efficient, and fits your small family this is definitely the way to go. The 4 cylinder gets about 23 mpg compared to the V6 that gets about 21. This car will definitely hold its value down the road. AFFORDABLE SUV - SUBARU FORESTER Growing up in Utah I saw tons of young families with at least 3 children. With that said, I also saw tons of Minivans and Foresters. Since the minivan really isn't my style I am highlighting the Forester. According to consumer reports:
The Forester has always been a sensible, practical, and affordable vehicle, and the redesigned 2009 model is even better. It also has a roomier rear seat, standard curtain air bags and electronic stability control, and improved interior quality. The base engine is an adequate 2.5-liter four-cylinder, delivering 22 mpg with an automatic and 24 mpg with a notchy manual transmission.
So if you've got some littles running around your house and need a good affordable SUV, this one is #1. Especially since it ranks #1 in fuel efficiency for SMALL SUV'S as well.
